Fantastic doubletrack riding in the piņon- and juniper-covered foothills just south of downtown Taos. This is by far one of the finest novice rides in the area. After the first initial singletrack section, the trail mellows out and takes a traversing line across the piņon- and juniper-studded foothills below Tetillas Peak. The riding is never really difficult and there is only a short section of rocky tread. Strong beginners in good shape will definitely enjoy this ride, and the intermediate cyclists will like the fact that they can push hard in the middle chain ring. The expert cyclists can really rack up the mileage on this one. The views are wonderful, so go out and enjoy what is one of the best mountain bike rides in the Taos area. I just love this ride! It is a just a short distance from downtown Taos and the Plaza. You drive through Ranchos de Taos and Talpa, two small villages that seem to resist the influences of modern times and hopefully will continue to do so. Trail surface: doubletrack and a short section of singletrack riding.
