Great singletrack riding on a piņon- and juniper-covered mesa overlooking the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River. The Rinconada Loop Trail is a must-stop for any mountain bikers visiting northern New Mexico. The trail is located on a mesa high above the Rio Grande and Red River. On this ride you are rewarded with views out to the Rio Grande, the Latir Peak Wilderness Area, and the Red River. The trails are user friendly, the campgrounds are well maintained, and the surrounding landscape is absolutely breathtaking. These attributes alone merit a visit to the area; throw in mountain biking and you have a great outdoor experience. Do this ride! The Rio Grande, at 1,900 miles long, is the second-longest river in the United States. Originating high in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, the river heads southeast, twisting its way through the San Luis Valley to the New Mexico state line. Below the volcanic plug of Ute Mountain, the Rio Grande flows through an 800-foot-deep canyon below the snowcapped peaks and piņon-studded plains of northern New Mexico. This part of the Rio Grande and the Canon Del Rio Grande has been designated as a wild and scenic river to protect the free-flowing state of the river and the natural beauty of the area.To me, beauty abounds everywhere in this part of New Mexico. Trail surface: Well-groomed singletrack trail.
