Gallegos Peak

The views and scenery on this ride are fabulous. Just below the peak is a beautiful meadow that dances with wildflowers in the spring and early summer, and then again in the fall after the seasonal rains. From the top of Gallegos Peak you can see Little Jicarita Peak (12,835 feet) and Truchas Peak (13,103 feet) to the south, both of which are located inside the Pecos Wilderness Area. This a fun, sometimes hair-raising descent; use caution and make sure that your helmet strap is snug under your chin. Mountain Biking Taos Area provided by Sarah Bennett Alley & Bruce Grubbs, "Mountain Biking New Mexico," Falcon Publishing The Carson National Forest map is adequate for finding this route and other routes in the area.
