Clearing the road of a landslide that came down a couple of years ago is not high priority for the Forest Service, whose scant funds are needed elsewhere. The formerly well-used Forest Service Road 438 up Rio de la Olla Canyon is now closed to vehicles a little more than halfway up. Rio de la Olla Canyon is gorgeous, and there are many good swimming holes in the creek that you can try on your way down.

The Carson National Forest map is good for finding your way along this trail and others in the area as well as showing how to get to them. You can also use USGS 7.5-minute quads for Shadybrook.
