2. Pre Ride the Course:

Hopefully you will arrive at the race venue the day before you actually compete. This way you have a chance to pre-ride the course and become familiar with its layout. Take the pre lap at relaxed pace, but not too easy! You want to find the parts of the course that suit your particular strengths so that you can exploit them during the race. If you are a good climber how can you expose the other riders on the climbs? Downhill speed freak? How can you set yourself up to be in front on the descents? What tactics will you have to employ to win on this course? Oh yea, don’t forget to note all of the obstacles too! Forgetting about the gnarly two foot drop off after the fast right hander can ruin your race plans very quickly.
